由于工作关系，接触了很多不同地域和行业的民营企业家，大到规模上千亿元的上市公司，小到几千万元规模的中小企业，各有各的特点，但以下几点是大部分企业家或多或少需要反省并引以为戒的：
1.不要总想当自己企业的皇帝
企业虽是自己辛辛苦苦一手创立的，从小做大成功了，但并不意味着老板就永远正确。很多老板在企业做到一定规模后，自信心膨胀，自大而目空一切，独断专行，唯我独尊，企业成功的功劳都是自己的，失败都是下属执行不力造成的。
听不得半点不同意见，否则就对那些持不同意见者进行打压，久而久之，老板很难在企业中听到不同的声音，开会时总是一边倒，老板爱听什么，下属就讲什么，听话的、表忠心的受到提拔，有独立思想敢于直言的受到排挤甚至离开企业，企业经营在“老板的英明领导下，一片歌舞升平”声中逐渐衰败，一个人再怎么强大也抵不过一个团队的力量。那些总想用一个人的大脑控制所有人手脚的老板最后什么都控制不了，只能走向崩溃。
该类企业的典型症状是：老板出行前呼后拥，下属在老板面前唯唯诺诺、谨慎小心，不敢大声说话，会议桌上老板一言堂，下属当面一套背后一套应付老板，老板讲话被当做语录广泛宣传，老板一言一行就是企业宪法，不容违背。几乎所有大小决策都由老板一人做出，中高层管理人员不过是个摆设，成为老板的传话筒。
这一点南方的企业稍好一点，北方企业尤甚。
2.不要把诚信踩在脚下
不知是中国法制环境不好，还是文化大革命留下了后遗症，总之在中国遵纪守法、诚实守信就是吃亏，我所见过的最守信的企业无疑几乎都是在外企，国内屡屡曝光的食品、乳制品、药品等行业丑闻层出不穷，即使是工业品、房地产等行业，也普遍存在偷工减料的现象，笔者亲眼见过某一国内知名的机械制造企业就是通过在油漆喷涂上做手脚来降低成本，夺取市场份额，结果把外企也带坏了，跟着学，整个行业陷入恶性竞争，败坏中国制造的声誉。
出来混终究是要还的，三鹿之流的企业倒下了，那些山寨的产品也开始遭到消费者的抛弃，市场正在成熟起来，企业要想做强做大、基业长青，老板还得亲自践行“诚信”二字，而不是仅仅喊喊口号。
3.不要急功近利
很多企业老板热衷“短平快”，看到什么赚钱就干什么，一哄而上，缺乏企业使命及长远战略规划。现在的光伏行业、风电行业就是最典型的例子，由曾经的香饽饽变成烫手的山芋，导致全行业亏损。南方的企业相对还比较务实一些，北方的企业更热衷去搞政府关系，老板的时间大部分都放在搞政府关系上，而不是企业的经营。
对他们来说，辛辛苦苦搞企业不如搞好政府关系弄几块地皮和扶持政策来得快，很多企业通过制造业从银行拿到贷款，然后去搞房地产，全国到处都在上演一场轰轰烈烈的“圈地运动”好戏。
很少有人真正投资于企业创新，无论是研发、管理还是商业模式，改革开放三十年，我们拿得出手，在国际上真正受人尊敬的如苹果、谷歌、丰田那样的企业又有几家？三十年改革红利正在耗尽，我们还有多少时间可以等待下去？
4.不要把你的员工当傻子，只要他们忠诚、付出而企业却不承当责任
很多民营企业，特别是中小企业，很热衷于给员工“洗脑”，找来培训机构，大讲“员工要以企业为家，要学会感恩，忠诚企业，回报企业等等”。
幻想把员工训练成一群只会听话干活，不求回报的免费义工，但这只是他们一厢情愿，也许在第一次通过精心课程设计，通过煽情等手段能够让员工痛哭流涕，让员工觉得对不起企业这个自己的衣食父母，没有尽到应有的责任，要努力工作报答企业主的恩情。
但持续不了两天，就会回到原来的状态，当他们在那乌烟瘴气的环境中工作，得不到应有的劳动保护时，拿着微不足道靠计件获得的收入时，被老板呼来喝去任意罚款时，吃着那比猪食好不了多少的饭菜时，他们可能对企业忠诚吗？可能把企业利益放在首位吗？
德鲁克告诉我们，身为员工，“他要求能够通过工作，在职位上发挥所长，建立自己的地位；他要求企业履行社会对个人的承诺——通过公平的升迁机会，实现社会正义；他要求从事有意义的严肃工作。
此外，员工对企业最重要的要求还包括：建立高绩效标准、具备组织和管理工作的高度能力，以及能明确表达对于良好工作表现的关注。”如果企业不能尊重员工的诉求，又怎能指望员工来尊重企业呢？我们需要牢记德鲁克的教诲“企业绝对不能变成‘福利公司’，企图包办个人生活的所有领域，无论就个人对企业的要求或企业提供的满足而言，企业的角色都必须局限在社会的基本机构上。要求员工对企业绝对忠诚，就好象企业承诺对员工负起百分之百的责任一样，都是不对的。”
5.不要把做政治的那套拿到企业里来
很多老板做企业像是在做政治，喜欢看宫廷斗争的电影电视，学习来用于企业，诸如如何互相牵制？如何安插亲信监视？如何鼓励打小报告？如何在内部搞政治斗争，用大棒来威慑下属等。他们担心下面的管理团队太团结，以致会共同来对付老板，损害企业利益，于是喜欢挑起争端，让内部不得安宁，比如让几个部门形成直接竞争关系，选择不合的人组成一个团队互相制约，甚至于“一个人做事，三个人监督”，结果企业效率下降，很多精力被白白内耗掉。
企业运行依赖的是系统的管理体系，包括组织结构、制度流程、有效的激励以及恰当的风险管控机制，而不是互相猜忌、明争暗斗的政治斗争。企业是创造价值的组织机构，有明确的目标和价值实现方式，通过结果和过程控制相结合是能够客观、科学评价每个人的绩效的，通过绩效监控来合理授权既可以激发管理团队的责任感，发挥他们的聪明才智，又能帮助老板从日常事务中解脱出来思考发展战略的大事，何乐而不为呢？
民营企业从小做大，老板需要不断挑战自己，转变自己的观念。现实中，很多企业老板没有意识到他们正在变成企业成长最大的障碍，当你的企业几年来停滞不前时，建议你深刻反思自己有无以上的行为，及时做出转变，相信会有意想不到的收获。
