触宝的 CEO 王佳梁曾在公司的 facebook 页面说，“打字就像呼吸一样，你每天都要做这件事，而且它应该很简单。”
触宝输入法是首个可通过手势和滑动进行输入的输入法，现其在 100 多个国家有超过 3 亿用户，在全球市场的份额已达全球第 2（第一是 Nuance，可能大家对这个名字不熟悉，但提到 Siri 大家就知道了，Siri 用的就是它的语音识别的技术，所以覆盖很多手机预装市场，量也可想而知），很多手机巨头比如华为，中兴都在预装触宝的产品。
这个从上海出发的创业公司目前是在海外获得相当注意力和用户的少数中国应用程序之一，曾被快公司杂志评为十个最被瞩目的中国出海的项目典范。
可以说一个从 08 年起步至少还活着并取得了不错甚至期望值之上的成果，怎么也算得上一次创业成功的研究案例了。当然这些，都与触宝的掌舵人王佳梁这个名字密不可分。这一次，在某论坛活动上我们巧遇了王佳梁，在他作的一篇题为『上海小男人的创业梦』演讲分享后和他简单聊了起来，这才有了本期以下您将看到的内容：
两个传说与故事背后的故事
高中保送上海交大，交大本科直升硕士，毕业以后放弃顶级投行高盛的海外职位和咨询公司的高薪，加入到微软中国研发集团成为一名项目经理。王佳梁这一路走来真可谓是顺风顺水。而促使王佳梁做出创业决定的，居然是朋友间的一次打赌。一次聚会中，他拿出了新买的多普达全触屏手机炫耀，但是却遇到了输入不方便的质疑。
突然王佳梁脑中闪现出一种全新的设计，并开始和大家讨论。编程高手王健号称自己一个周末就能实现这个想法的雏形，于是王佳梁与其打赌，如果他能做出来就一起辞职创业。结果王健果然只花了一个周末，一种全新的输入法原型就出现了。很快，更多新的点子涌了出来。
在完善这个智能手机输入法软件的过程中，王佳梁突然看到了这个产业巨大的空白和商机。怀着一直以来对创业特有的热情，三位创始人决定放弃在外企的高薪工作，为梦想而奋斗。
这是你从百度百科可以获得的——关于他的故事是如何开始的版本。但事实上，王佳梁演讲中坦言道：其实在交大读书的时候就有创业的念头在萌芽，之后决定去微软而拒绝了风光亮丽去高盛工作的机会，原因就是他在巴黎街头的一次决定。
在巴黎街头究竟发生了什么他并未详细提及，但是就是那么一刻，宛若天降启示，他决定是时候去启动自己的创业梦了。但在当时国内环境下他很难找到志于道和的合伙人一起携手作战，于是他想到了去微软工作，他想在那个聚集了科技界所有才华横充满抱负的 IT 精英的地方，一定能找到他想找的人。
于是命运促使着他跨出了创业这条漫漫长征的第一步。。。。。后面的故事如上所言大家也都知道了，但即使没有那次打赌，对于王来说也不会让创业这个早已提上的议程过久搁置下去。
同样，王最被人津津乐道的另一故事是在巴塞罗那通讯大会的一次演讲后，当评委问到：你们如何保证你们的创新不被别人抄袭？王的回答是：只有一种方法，就是我我们的创新速度比他们的抄袭速度还要快！下台以后不少老外翘起了大拇指，其中一个说“ 同样的话他只在另一场演讲中听到过，演讲者就是苹果公司的创始人史蒂夫-乔布斯。”
虽然故事可能有夸张之处，但对于刚开始起步的小公司如何创新以及创新之道，王佳梁确实有一套自己的理论：
现在很多小公司都会焦虑一个问题：就是他们好不容易创新出来，最后还不是被大公司抄走了，还不如去抄一些国外模式，你抄我抄大家抄的皆大欢喜还省事。在我看来，小公司创业一定是看到某个市场需求。要么是自己去创新满足需求；要么是从国外 copy 来满足需求。如果你是 copy 的 idea，第一步走了捷径，但实际上，你的可取代性是非常强的，不会长久。
我们一开始说要做创新型的产品定位就是：尽管点很小，但是它的点要很小、很具体，适合小团队去开发。有些产品需要大量的运营，这种类型的创新不太适合小团队，像输入法也是比较满足这个；同时要满足尽管点很小，但是它未来的空间是很大，用户量很大，或者最后衍生的面非常大。
就像我们一开始做输入法后来做拨号应用，都有可能有几千万的用户，并且用户每天都会高频次去使用。
另外，一旦你想好了创新的点子就需要静下心来，做一段时间的产品，反而不容易抄袭。如果你的创新只是 idea，没有竞争壁垒，这种创新很容易被抄袭，而且更容易被巨头模仿，模仿之后，小公司基本就没有任何机会了。
专利争取来的作用和背后的代价
王佳梁在演讲中反复提及在海外市场打拼的中国企业要注重专利的重要性和自我保护。原来关于专利，王佳梁还有一段不得不说的往事：那时候在美国市场一炮打响（触宝先是推出的英文版，叫做 TouchPal 在 APP STORE 还是一款 12 刀的收费应用）。
在一路高歌猛进用户量激增，刚在 13 年取得了一千万美金投资春风得意的时候，触宝终于遇上了一次大危机——那时候有一家同类型的大公司提出收购邀约，在未果后居然提出威胁说如果不同意收购方案，就用无限专利诉讼的方式让 TouchPal 面临破产的险境。美国对于专利侵权一般有很长的诉讼周期和高昂的代价，其中最麻烦的就是 3373 号诉状。TouchPal 和王佳梁这此要面对的就是 3373 这一纸诉状。
王佳梁徘徊再三，终于决定倾力与之较劲到底，请到了美国顶尖的非凡律师事务所最好的律师（当年苹果和 HTC 侵权官司的御用律所）并拿出了所有专利申请的证据和那家公司对峙公堂。
终于这一次正义没有缺席，那家提出诉讼的公司因为在庭前调查阶段被法官发现——其之前就有用专利耍流氓恶意低价收购竞争对手的案底，最后被判诉讼请求不予以成立。这一下，TouchPal 以一个小老鼠扳倒大象的角色被美国媒体关注报道，其对于专利创新的捍卫精神也一直被硅谷的创业者们传作佳话。
讲完这个故事，王佳梁长舒口气提到：专利是个长线投资，需要三五年才能体现出来。专利可以带来的优势是预装，在用户下载上，专利帮助不会特别大，但是对预装厂商，他们非常关注专利，哪怕是国内的厂商也一样。一朝被蛇咬，十年怕草绳。
这也就是为什么在输入法上，尽管搜狗名气特别大，但是他们主要是在国内市场。从预装厂商看，搜狗只能在二三线厂商预装，但是触宝就是在和一线厂商合作，这就是专利的作用。巨头会抄袭，但是之后特别是国外自然而言发现，专利是个无法逾越的障碍。这样，厂商预装会受到影响。这时我们就赢得了主动权，国内的预装，我们是没有付过钱的，反过来，厂商还会给我们钱。
输入法做到极致以外的探索
3.7 亿用户，达九十种语言覆盖，这是今天的触宝输入法所取得的骄人成绩。我们很多之所以知道的触宝输入法，大都是因为它可以支持盲打的功能，只要打在一个大概的位置，会自动纠错；中英文输入也不需要切换还加入滑动输入的开创体验，非常便捷感知人性。
在触宝的拨号软件上也同样具有有趣的创新，与目前市场上的很多拨号产品很多都不同的是：它有一个状态的设置，比如你在开会，就可以设置自己的状态，像 MSN 那样的，这样别人在打电话之前，就会看到你的状态，如果没有装拨号软件的，会收到短信。这样的一个叫做触宝拨号的产品是触宝在输入法之后进入一个新领域里跨度很大的一次尝试，产品在去年上线，目前在拨号类应用中，做到了总量下载量第一。
未来王佳梁想的是还要在生活类的导航平台上发展，做互联网创新 020 服务提供者的新版“黄页”，更将是他们打开海内外市场一次机会。这也将是触宝电话在获得了国内五亿用户后的下一个战场和全新的篇章。
上海的创业环境
王佳梁坦言：因为他本身就是上海土生土长的，作为一个“上海小男人”的他很清楚，上海人比起承担创业的巨大风险更会喜欢给人当打工皇帝的角色。这也是现在人说，为什么上海缺乏创业热情的缘由。但他同时相信，随着上海海纳百川的城市胸怀与发展，更多的创业者会看到上海所具有的金融中心和高科技产业扎根聚集的地位优势来这里发展，追求自己的一份创业梦。
这些就是一个上海小男人的创业梦，让我想起了上海滩那首歌里唱的：似大江一发不收转千湾转千滩也未平复，此中争斗又有喜又有愁。这样一个一路走来从未言弃的创业者是我们所有华人创业者的骄傲和榜样。
