“云书”创立于2014年9月24日，最早是一个大学社团性质的项目，随着发展，其价值得到越来越多的认可，创始人郑霖为了更大的价值实现，休学创业。“云书”团队非常年轻，成员9人皆为90后，其中5人休学。他们要做一个免费教材的流转平台，提高教材利用率，减少资源浪费，以及打破现有的不合理的利益框架。
中国每年新出版的高校教材数以亿计，出版费用超百亿元，而教材的循环利用率非常低。“云书”收集整合闲置教材，自营仓储，现有2万余种、八万多册教材。用户可以在Web app 和微信平台搜索需要的教材，“云书”最快同城2小时内送货上门。其当前覆盖地区限于杭州，已开拓市场包括整个下沙高教园区、浙大、树人大学，北京地区正在筹备中。
“云书”的运营推广以线上推广为主，以及与Uber、i大学等合作互推。郑霖表示，推广必须以完备的库存和良好的用户体验为基础，因此当下以自身建设为重心。目前“云书”关注用户量2万以上，每日增长量约500，日均订单200以上。
关于市场需求频度，郑霖分析说：学生订书一般在开学和期末，不同的学校开学时间不同，放眼整个大学生市场，总体时间跨度和需求频度并不低；教材只是知识的载体，知识的需求则可以贯穿每一天、每一个用户；相比考虑比较固定的市场规模，市场占有率、转化率更值得重视。而且“云书”的初心是让更多的大学生免费得到教材，为循环经济做一份自己的努力。
竞品方面，二手书网、123图书馆等均是交易平台，郑霖认为“云书”的最大优势是免费，基于环保、公益的理念，教材收集、教材本身、物流配送全部免费。
当公益遇上商业，郑霖说：“公益和盈利并不冲突，根据我们目前的经营状况，做公益的同时，自己能够温饱。我们没有破坏这件事情的本质，书还是免费的，包括捐赠配送。”关于盈利模式，“云书”现阶段以广告收入为主。通过书签广告的形式，做到精准投放和长期留存，帮助广告方实现高转化率。目前，In、Highing、美妆心得、新东方、新航道、环球雅思与“云书”都有广告合作。
未来，“云书”还有：新书团购，打破学校垄断，以近乎成本价销售给大学生用户；情感溢价，类似现在“罗辑思维”的自营、赞赏分享模式；数据分析，根据基础数据，跟进用户后续动态提供产品和服务。
融资方面，郑霖近期在和一些投资方接触。“云书”对于资金需求并不迫切，郑霖更希望投资方提供人才、经营方面的资源，为年轻的团队对业务模式、发展方向进行把关。
