2009年，Mike和JC Conrad兄弟尝尽了经济衰退给他们所带来的苦头。那时Mike在地产行业工作，而JC在建筑行业发展。而且那个时候他们的父亲还得了重病，于是他们二人都从西雅图回到了华盛顿Spokane老家。
在接受采访的时候Mike表示：“那时我们都靠着救济生活。我失去了我的房子，我的车也被银行收回了。最后我变得身无分文，那段日子真的是不堪回首。”
现实的问题变得越来越严峻，两兄弟不得不开始为自己的未来寻找出路，和他们一起的，还是他们的表兄弟Adam Kremin。最终他们决定靠贩卖鸡肉来养活自己和家人。其实早在大约10年以前，他们就曾经萌生过这个想法。他们从农场主那里订购了40磅(约18公斤)的脱骨去皮鸡肉。他们将这些鸡肉切成小块，放在塑料托盘上，用玻璃纸打包，然后将这些鸡肉卖给本地的商店。
不久之后，他们萌生了一个新的想法，那就是帮助商店提高鸡肉的销量：如果人们愿意购买一整箱40磅的鸡肉，他们可以获得大幅度的优惠，大约每磅1.49美元，这个价格比零售价每磅便宜了4-5美元。此计划一出，立刻就获得了消费者的认可。大约有1000个消费者加入了这个项目，他们在两天之内就卖出了8万磅鸡肉。
从此以后，三兄弟就开始更加努力的推广他们的鸡肉销售计划。他们来到了附近的教堂，开始向人们宣传他们的服务。他们发现，在经济衰退的情况下，人们不得不想尽一切办法来降低自己的生活成本，只要东西够便宜，就一定会找到市场。
他们的业务模式非常简单：让人们预先支付货款，然后他们去租一辆卡车，到农场把鸡肉买来，最后把鸡肉拉到教堂的停车场，让消费者把鸡肉取回家。Spokane的很多人都成为了他们的消费者，甚至有人将支票和现金通过信件的方式发给他们。仅仅在2009年12月，他们就获得了4万美元的营收，要知道，这仅仅是他们的第一次尝试。
2010年初，他们成立了一家名为Zaycon Fresh的公司，并且开始更加频繁的在Spokane举办这种鸡肉订购活动。
在公司成立之后，Mike担任了公司的CEO，他表示：“我们都没有受过大学教育，我们都只是经营小型企业的创业者。在我们成立了企业之后，我们尝试销售所有相关的产品，鸡肉、牛肉馅和牛排等。我们那时的共组并没有什么调理，只是为了获得尽可能多的营收而已。”
Zaycon开始在Spokane不断成长，而且在那段时候，不断有人问这几位创始人，他们是否愿意将这个业务带到其他地区。于是，他们决定进行尝试，看看这个业务在其他城市是否也能获得成功。他们第一次尝试是在西雅图，而且这次尝试出乎意料的成功。之后他们又在博伊西进行了尝试，结果依然让他们欣喜。随后的波特兰也没有令他们失望。
相继在多个城市获得成功之后，他们开发了一个网页，让来自全美各地的人都可以在网页上注册成会员，并且进行在线订购和支付。从此以后，他们将自己的鸡肉送到了全美所有城市的停车场。为了自中西部、南部和东海岸进行宣传，Mike和JC给1000位知名博客主发送了邮件。Mike拉着一卡车的鸡肉从加利福尼亚来到了华盛顿、Adam则来到了缅因州，为的就是让这些博客主来评价他们的鸡肉。这次努力也没有让他们失望，有400个博客主宣传了他们的鸡肉，这次宣传也给他们带来了数千名注册会员。
2010年，Zaycon Fresh的营收达到了40万美元。而在2011年，他们开始销售其他肉类产品，他们在当年的营收也激增到了460万美元。但是该公司最大的转折点是在2012年，因为在那一年，美国著名新闻节目《早安美国(Good Morning America)》对他们进行了报道。节目一经播出，Zaycon突然新增了3.5万新注册消费者。短期内的流量快速提升，甚至一度让他们的网站出现了崩溃。
Mike表示：“《早安美国》给我们带来了大量的曝光，而且让人们相信了我们是一家合法的企业。在卡车上买鸡肉多少会让人感到有些奇怪，但是能出现在电视上，证明了我们的模式是有效的，也让消费者相信了我们的食品是安全的。”
2012年，JC由于承受不了压力而选择退出，Mike和Adam买下了他手中的期权。在获得了数万个新消费者之后，他们意识到，如果想要不断满足消费者的需求，他们必须要进行融资。同年，他们获得了100万美元的融资，投资人位Mike Giunta。2014年，他们进行了第二轮融资，融资金额为150万美元，投资方为SaratoGA Equity和前Priceline CEO Rick Braddock。本次融资之后，Braddock加入了该公司的董事会，并任职董事会主席。
2014年，Mike和Adam成功劝说华盛顿州议员Cathy McMorris Rodgers和纽约参议院Kirsten Gillibrand在农场法案中添加一条规定，让依靠救济的人可以使用自己的食品券在网上购买食品。
Mike表示：“我想要帮助这些人，因为我自己也曾经经历过这个阶段，我希望这些人能以更低的价格买到更好的食品。”
2014年，该公司继续迎来了增长，他们的营收达到了1700万美元，而且还雇佣了92名员工。如今他们在48个州的范围内提供服务，他们的消费者数量已经突破了12万人。BAIrd分析师Kurt Roth预计，该公司今年的营收有望达到7000万美元。
Roth表示，Zaycon最大的优势，就是他们减少了中间人的环节，将肉类产品直接从农场送到消费者手中，从而节省了仓储等固定费用，并且能够更好的保障肉类的新鲜程度。大多数市场上的肉类，从农场发出到摆上货架，基本需要15-25天的时间。
Mike表示，他的终极目标，就是建立一个预付费农场产品市场。这样，农场主们就可以根据市场需求进行生产，从而减少浪费。而且相比于把农产品卖给超市和商店，将它们直接销售给消费者，还可以提高农场主的收入。而且，在这个模式下消费者也可以获得好处，他们能够获得更新鲜和天然的食品，而且食品价格比从超市购买更低。
目前，该公司的战略是逐渐增加产品种类，并且让消费者、农场主和员工都感到满意一Baird的一份调查显示，98%的Zaycon消费者都愿意将这个公司推荐给自己的亲朋好友，这家公司的模式看上去非常有潜力。Mike自己则表示：“如果我们继续关注人们的需求，我们的公司就能够持续成长。而关注人们的需要，也正是我们的追求。”
