一项新研究发现，快乐也许是人们生活中必不可少的东西，但它并不会让你活得更久。该研究终结了悲伤和焦虑不安会令人生病这一错误的观念。
一项历时十年、拥有一百万名英国女性参与者的研究发现，人们快乐的情感状态对死亡率没有直接影响，先前的研究搞错了因果联系。研究人员们说身体不佳会令人不开心，因此不开心会与增加的死亡率有关。
该研究样本很大，它将不开心排除在女性参与者们的整体死亡率上升的原因之外。研究人员们还发现吸烟者的不开心程度通常比不吸烟的人高。不过，将病史、吸烟和其它生活与社会经济饮食考虑在内，他们发现不开心本身与死亡率上升之间没有关系。
该研究的共同作者Sir Richard Peto是牛津大学的教授，他说：“许多人直到现在依旧认为压力和不开心会直接导致人们生病，但他们弄反了因果关系。生病的人当然没有健康人开心，英国百万妇女调查显示开心和不开心本身并不会对死亡率带来直接影响。”
该调查发表在12月10日的《柳叶刀》杂志上，该调查拥有一百多万名年龄在五十岁以上的女性参与者，它是英国癌症研究中心和NHS的联合项目。
参与者们在参与研究后的第三年里，收到了一份问卷，上面要求她们自行评估她们的健康、幸福、压力、自制力和她们是否感到放松。最终六分之五的女性表示她们一般都很开心，六分之一的女性表示她们通常不开心。
不开心与失业、抽烟、缺乏锻炼以及没有伴侣陪伴有关。然而，联系最紧密的一点在于那些身体不好的女性通常都不开心、压力大、自制力差且感觉不放松。
主要分析包括七十万名平均年龄为59岁的女性。在接下来十年的时间里，电子记录会追踪这些女性的死亡率，在此期间共三万名女性死亡。
科学家们表示在合理范围内允许健康和生活方式带来的差异之后，不开心之人的总体死亡率与开心之人的总体死亡率一样。
研究的主要作者Bette Liu目前在澳大利亚新南威尔士大学，他说：“疾病会让你不开心，但不开心本身并不会让你生病。我们发现不开心和压力对死亡率没有直接影响。”
先前认为开心、自我控制、放松和与健康相关的措施能够减少死亡率的研究，并没有观察疾病直接造成的不开心和压力这一要素。
