蓝毗尼——佛陀诞生地

悉达多·乔达摩于公元前623年诞生于蓝毗尼的一座著名的花园里，后来该处就成为朝圣之地。悉达多·乔达摩（Siddhartha Gautama），姓乔达摩，名悉达多，35岁时在菩提树下得道成佛。成佛后的释迦牟尼，被尊称为佛陀（Buddha）佛陀简称为佛，其意为“觉悟者”。“释迦牟尼”是佛教徒对他的尊称。80岁时释迦牟尼佛陀进入涅槃，圆寂于拘尸那迦城附近的希拉尼耶伐底河边的娑罗林中。

蓝毗尼，蓝毗尼位于尼泊尔西南和印度交界处，在鲁潘德希县境内，距加德满都280公里。这一遗址主要是摩诃摩耶夫人庙、阿育王柱（Asoka pillar）、圣水池和菩提树。

 

印度的君主阿育王（Indian emperor Ashoka）也是朝拜者之一，并在此建立了一个他的纪念柱。这里现在已逐渐成为佛教徒的朝圣中心。
