Discernment ~ Devoid
1. Discernment ~ n. Smart judgment. Keenly selective judgment, good taste and judgment. The ability to judge well. i.e. "an astonishing lack of discernment" The noun discernment describes a wise way of judging between things, or a particularly perceptive way of seeing things. If you can understand something that's somewhat hidden or obscure — if you figure out the themes of a confusing movie, for example — you're using discernment.
2. Devoid ~ adj. Lacking, completely lacking in something. i.e. The whole house is devoid of any charm whatsoever. Entirely lacking or free from. i.e. "Lisa kept her voice completely devoid of emotion." To lack or be without something that is necessary or usual: i.e. Their apartment is devoid of all comforts.
